Event overview

Every year, the annual meeting and conference of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative brings together municipal, provincial, state and federal officials, along with their staff, concerned citizens and water specialists. This event is the perfect opportunity to discuss issues and solutions to ensure the protection, restoration and promotion of an invaluable resource – the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence basin. This basin is home to 40 million citizens, half of whom use it to draw their drinking water. This is why your presence is so important in Québec this coming June 26, 27 and 28.

Word of welcome from Régis Labeaume,

President of the Québec Metropolitan Community

A highly coveted commodity and the subject of political negotiations and debate on several levels, the water of the St. Lawrence/Great Lakes system is a precious resource for our citizens.

I invite you to attend the 2012 annual meeting and conference of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative. Issues as fundamental as access to shores, sustainable management of municipal water, and relations between waterfront communities and the marine industry will be the subject of presentations and discussions.

This major meeting will take place from June 26-28, 2012 at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, in the heart of Old Québec, a district that is on UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage list.

Together, we will strive to make our cities more waterwise.

I look forward to seeing you in great numbers.

Régis Labeaume,
President  of  Québec Metropolitan Community
Mayor of Québec City
